Sean Astin (born February 25, 1971) is an American actor known for his roles in various movies and TV shows. He gained popularity for playing Mikey Walsh in The Goonies (1985) and Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003). Astin has also appeared in films such as Toy Soldiers (1991), Rudy (1993), 50 First Dates (2004), and Click (2006). On television, he has portrayed Lynn McGill in the fifth season of 24 (2006) and Bob Newby in the second season of Netflix's Stranger Things (2017). Astin has received several awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and two Young Artist Awards. He was born in Santa Monica, California and is the son of actress Patty Duke and actor John Astin.
