Sean Kanan (born November 2, 1966) is an American actor, producer, and author. He is best known for his roles as Mike Barnes in The Karate Kid Part III and Cobra Kai, A. J. Quartermaine on General Hospital, and Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. Kanan was born as Sean Perelman in Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to New Castle, Pennsylvania. He attended Mercersburg Academy, Boston University, and UCLA, where he earned a degree in political science. Kanan's first notable role was as the villain Mike Barnes in the 1989 film The Karate Kid Part III, directed by John Avildsen.
