Sean Patrick Thomas is an American actor known for his roles in various movies and TV shows. He gained recognition for his performance as Derek Reynolds in the 2001 film Save the Last Dance and as Jimmy James in the Barbershop film series. Thomas has also appeared in television, notably as Detective Temple Page in The District and as Professor Macalester in Vixen. Born in Washington, D.C., Thomas was raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He attended Brandywine High School and later the University of Virginia. Initially interested in pursuing law, Thomas shifted his focus to acting after landing a role in the play A Raisin in the Sun. He attended New York University's Graduate Acting Program and graduated in 1995.
