After graduating from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1990, Gilliam began his film career in the early 1990s. He has appeared in acclaimed films such as Still Alice and Courage Under Fire. Gilliam has also had recurring roles on popular television shows, including The Cosby Show, where he portrayed Aaron Dexter, and Teen Wolf, where he played the role of Dr. Alan Deaton.
