Severn Darden Biography
Severn Teakle Darden Jr. (November 9, 1929 – May 27, 1995) was an American comedian and actor. He was a founding member of The Second City and its predecessor, the Compass Players. Known for his film appearances, Darden portrayed the human leader Kolp in the fourth and fifth Planet of the Apes films. His live comedy improv skit as 'Walther von der Vogelweide' influenced two generations of comic performers. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Darden attended the University of Chicago where he was a 'campus legend.' His offbeat and intellectual sense of humor played a vital role in defining The Second City's style. Combining surrealistic New Orleans charm and tough, caustic 'Chicago Style' comedy, Darden's work remains influential.
