Shelley Mathew Malil is an Indian-American actor who was born on December 23, 1964, in Kerala, India. At the age of 9, Malil emigrated to the United States with his family in 1974. He developed a passion for acting in high school and aspired to be a comedic actor like Bob Hope. After attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York for two years, Malil made his way to Hollywood in 1995. He appeared in various television shows and films, including notable roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) and Holes (2003). In 2010, Malil was convicted of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon, serving 8 years of a 12-year-to-life term at Ironwood State Prison in southern California.
