Sid Melton (May 22, 1917 – November 2, 2011) was an American actor known for his roles in various film and television projects. Born as Sidney Meltzer in Brooklyn, New York City, he began his career in the entertainment industry and appeared in around 140 projects over the course of nearly 60 years. Some of his notable film credits include Lost Continent, The Steel Helmet, The Lemon Drop Kid, and Lady Sings The Blues. Melton gained recognition for his roles as Alf Monroe in the sitcom Green Acres and Uncle Charlie Halper in The Danny Thomas Show and its spin-offs. He also made appearances in flashback episodes of The Golden Girls as Salvadore Petrillo, the deceased husband of Sophia and father of Dorothy.
