Siegfried Carl Alban Rumann, better known as Sig Ruman or Sig Rumann, was a German-American character actor. Born on October 11, 1884, in Hamburg, German Empire, Rumann began his career as an actor and musician before serving in the Imperial German Army during World War I. After the war, he resumed his acting career and emigrated to the United States in 1924. In the US, Rumann befriended playwright George S. Kaufman and theater critic Alexander Woollcott, and enjoyed success on Broadway. He appeared in famous productions such as 'Grand Hotel' and 'Once There Was a Russian.' Rumann featured in over 100 films, often playing pompous and stereotypically Teutonic officials or villains.
