Simon Coombs Biography
Simon Christopher Coombs (born 21 February 1947) is a former British Conservative politician. He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Swindon from 1983 until 1997. Following boundary changes, Coombs stood in the new Swindon South seat in 1997 but lost to Labour's Julia Drown. He attempted to regain the seat in 2001 but was unsuccessful. During his time in Parliament, Coombs played a role in the technology boom in Swindon, serving as Treasurer of PITCOM, the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee. He also served as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Minister of Information Technology and later to the Secretary of State for Scotland and President of the Board of Trade, Ian Lang.
