Simon Doonan
Simon Doonan (born 1952) is an English author, television personality, and former Creative Director of Barneys NY. He began his career in the art of window dressing at Heelas, a department store in Reading, before moving to London and working at Aquascutum and Nutters of Savile Row. In 1978, Doonan relocated to the United States after being invited to dress windows at Maxfield in Los Angeles. He gained recognition for designing the gallery scene in the popular film Beverly Hills Cop in 1984. Doonan also worked for Diana Vreeland at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum in 1985. Joining Barneys in 1986, his window displays became a tourist attraction in New York City. He remained with Barneys NY until its closure in 2019.
