Simon Schama

Sir Simon Michael Schama is a British historian and academic known for his expertise in art history, Dutch history, Jewish history, and French history. Born on February 13, 1945, in Marylebone, London, Schama is a University Professor of History and Art History at Columbia University. He gained public recognition with his book 'Citizens,' a history of the French Revolution published in 1989. Schama is widely recognized in the United Kingdom for his hosting and writing of the 15-part BBC documentary series 'A History of Britain' from 2000 to 2002. In 2018, he was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Schama's heritage includes Ashkenazi Lithuanian Jewish and Sephardi Jewish backgrounds.
