Solange

Solange (died 10 May, c. 880) was a Frankish shepherdess and Christian saint. Born into a poor but devout family in Villemont, near Bourges, Solange consecrated her virginity at the age of seven. She was known for her healing abilities and her ability to exorcise devils. Solange gained popularity and caught the attention of the son of the count of Poitiers, who tried to force her into a relationship. Resisting his advances, Solange was abducted and beheaded by her captor when she struggled violently. She is venerated as the patron saint of the traditional Province of Berry, and her cult is restricted to Sainte-Solange, Cher.
