Spiro Malas

Spiro Samuel Malas (January 28, 1933 – June 23, 2019) was a Greek-American bass-baritone opera singer and actor. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to Greek immigrants, Malas attended Towson State College before pursuing his passion for opera. He made his operatic debut in 1959 and went on to win the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1960. Throughout his career, Malas performed in various productions, including a notable appearance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens. He also collaborated with renowned opera figures, such as Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge. In addition to his opera career, Malas made appearances in New York City Opera productions. Spiro Malas passed away on June 23, 2019.
