Stacey Abrams

Stacey Abrams is an American politician, lawyer, voting rights activist, and author. Born on December 9, 1973, she served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017, acting as the minority leader from 2011 to 2017. Abrams, a member of the Democratic Party, founded Fair Fight Action in 2018, an organization dedicated to combating voter suppression. Her efforts have been widely recognized for increasing voter turnout in Georgia, including in the 2020 presidential election and the 2020–21 U.S. Senate elections, which led to Democrats gaining control of the Senate. In 2018, Abrams made history as the first African-American female major-party nominee for a gubernatorial election in the United States. Despite narrowly losing the Georgia gubernatorial election to Brian Kemp, she refused to concede, accusing Kemp of voter suppression.
