Stephen J. Cannell (February 5, 1941 – September 30, 2010) was an American television producer, writer, novelist, occasional actor, and founder of Cannell Entertainment and the Cannell Studios. He is best known for creating or co-creating several successful TV series including The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Renegade, The Greatest American Hero, 21 Jump Street, and The Commish. In addition to his work in television, Cannell also wrote novels, notably the Shane Scully mystery series. Born in Los Angeles and raised in nearby Pasadena, Cannell struggled with dyslexia but graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in journalism. His contributions to the entertainment industry have left a lasting legacy.
