Steve Gehrke Biography
Steve Gehrke (born 1971) is an American poet. He was raised in Mankato, Minnesota and holds degrees from Minnesota State University, University of Texas-Austin, and the University of Missouri. Gehrke has taught at various universities including the University of Missouri, Seton Hall University, and Gettysburg College. Currently, he is a professor in the MFA program at the University of Nevada, Reno. His poetry has been published in notable literary journals such as The Georgia Review, Indiana Review, Mississippi Review, The Yale Review, Slate, The Iowa Review, and The Kenyon Review. Gehrke has received several awards for his poetry including the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry, Philip Levine Prize in Poetry, National Poetry Series, and a residency from the Lannan Foundation, Marfa. He is the nephew of Tom Montag and has overcome kidney failure with the help of his sister, Gwen, who donated a kidney.
