Steve Whitmire Biography
Steven Lawrence Whitmire (born September 24, 1959) is an American puppeteer, best known for his work on The Muppets and Sesame Street. He began his involvement with the Muppets in 1978 and took over the roles of Ernie and Kermit the Frog after the passing of Jim Henson in 1990. Whitmire portrayed these characters until 2014 and 2016, respectively. As a member of the Muppet cast, he has appeared in numerous feature films and television series, performing various characters on The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock. Whitmire has worked for The Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop, and The Muppets Studio.
