Steven Frederic Seagal (born April 10, 1952) is an American actor, producer, screenwriter, and martial artist. He is best known for his roles in action films, where he showcases his martial arts skills. Seagal is a 7th-dan black belt in aikido and began his career as a martial arts instructor in Japan. He made his acting debut in 1988 with the film Above the Law and gained further recognition for his role as Casey Ryback in Under Siege (1992). Throughout the 1990s, Seagal starred in several films, before shifting to direct-to-video productions. He has also appeared in reality shows, including Steven Seagal: Lawman, which documented his work as a reserve deputy sheriff. Apart from his acting career, Seagal is also a guitarist and has released two studio albums.
