John Sturgill Simpson, born on June 8, 1978, is an American country music singer-songwriter and actor. With seven albums released as a solo artist, Simpson gained recognition for his independent debut albums, 'High Top Mountain' (2013) and 'Metamodern Sounds in Country Music' (2014). The latter received critical acclaim, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album and securing a spot on Rolling Stone's '50 Best Albums of 2014' list. Simpson's major-label release, 'A Sailor's Guide to Earth' (2016), won the Grammy for Best Country Album and was nominated for Album of the Year. His album 'Sound & Fury' (2019) garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album. Additionally, in 2020, Simpson released two bluegrass interpretation albums, 'Cuttin' Grass, Vol. 1' and 'Vol. 2'.
