Sue Bird Biography
Sue Bird, born Suzanne Brigit Bird on October 16, 1980, is an American former professional basketball player known for her illustrious career with the Seattle Storm in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was drafted first overall by the Storm in the 2002 WNBA draft and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. Bird is the only WNBA player to have won titles in three different decades. Alongside her WNBA success, Bird also played for three teams in Russia. Additionally, she held a front office position for the NBA's Denver Nuggets as their Basketball Operations Associate. Notably, Bird holds both U.S. and Israeli citizenship. Her achievements include being named New York State Player of the Year, New York Daily News Player of the Year, and a WBCA All-American in high school. In college, she was a part of the undefeated University of Connecticut team in 2002, where she won the Wade Trophy and the Naismith Award for College Player of the Year. Bird's UConn career saw her finish ranked first in three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.
