She gained recognition for portraying Lenore Curtin Delaney on Another World, Lois Adams on It's a Living, Maggie Gioberti Channing on Falcon Crest, Kitty Montgomery on Dharma & Greg, and Martha Rodgers on Castle. Sullivan received an Emmy nomination for her lead role in the series Julie Farr, M.D. and a Golden Globe nomination for her supporting role in Dharma & Greg. Born in New York City, she grew up in Freeport, Nassau County, and graduated from Freeport High School before earning a BA in drama from Hofstra University.
