Suzanne Pleshette (January 31, 1937 – January 19, 2008) was an American theatre, film, television, and voice actress. Beginning her career in the theatre, she transitioned to films in the late 1950s, starring in notable movies such as Rome Adventure (1962), Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963), and Spirited Away (2001). Pleshette also had a strong presence in television, frequently appearing in guest roles and gaining recognition for her portrayal of Emily Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972 to 1978. She received multiple Emmy Award nominations for her work on the show. Born in Brooklyn Heights, New York City, on January 31, 1937, Pleshette was the daughter of a dancer and artist mother and a theater manager and network executive father.
