Sydney Pollack (July 1, 1934 – May 26, 2008) was an accomplished American film director, producer, and actor. With a career spanning over forty years, Pollack directed a number of commercially successful and critically acclaimed films. He received two Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture for Out of Africa (1985), and was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and six BAFTA Awards. Pollack's notable directorial works include They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), Tootsie (1982), Jeremiah Johnson (1972), and Three Days of the Condor (1975). In addition to directing, Pollack also produced films like The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) and acted in Michael Clayton (2007).
