Talib Kweli Greene, born on October 3, 1975, is an American rapper known for his contributions to the hip-hop genre. He gained early recognition as a member of the group Black Star, formed in 1997 with fellow Brooklyn rapper Mos Def. Kweli's solo career flourished with successful collaborations with producers and rappers such as Kanye West, Just Blaze, and Pharrell Williams. In 2020, he released his latest album, Gotham. Apart from his music, Kweli founded the record label Javotti Media in 2011. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, he comes from an academically accomplished family with his mother being an English professor and his father working in administration at Adelphi University. Kweli's passion for Afrocentric values influenced his upbringing.
