Tammy Suzanne Green Baldwin (born February 11, 1962) is an American politician and lawyer. A member of the Democratic Party, she has served as the junior United States senator from Wisconsin since 2013. Prior to her Senate tenure, Baldwin served three terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly and represented Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2013. In 2012, she became the first openly LGBT woman elected to the United States Senate. Baldwin, who identifies as a progressive, has a consistent record of advocating for various social and economic issues. She announced her candidacy for reelection in the 2024 United States Senate election in Wisconsin on April 12, 2023.
