Teller (born Raymond Joseph Teller; February 14, 1948) is an American magician and actor. He is best known as half of the comedy magic duo Penn & Teller, alongside Penn Jillette. Teller is known for his silent performances, rarely speaking during their shows. In addition to his work in magic, Teller is also an H.L. Mencken Fellow at the Cato Institute. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Teller's father was of Russian-Jewish descent, and his mother came from a Delaware farming family. Teller graduated from Amherst College with a Bachelor of Arts in Classics and initially pursued a career as a high-school Latin teacher before finding success in magic and entertainment.
