Terence Blanchard Biography
Terence Oliver Blanchard is an American trumpeter, pianist, and composer born on March 13, 1962. He started his career in 1982 as a member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and later joined The Jazz Messengers. Blanchard has composed over forty film scores and performed on more than fifty. He is notable for his collaborations with director Spike Lee and has been nominated for two Academy Awards for his work on Lee's films BlacKkKlansman (2018) and Da 5 Bloods (2020). Additionally, Blanchard has won five Grammy Awards out of fourteen nominations. He served as the artistic director of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz from 2000 to 2011 and has held positions at the University of Miami, Berklee College of Music, and UCLA.
