Terry Gross

Terry Gross is an American journalist and the host and co-executive producer of Fresh Air, an interview-based radio show. Born on February 14, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York City, Gross grew up in its Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. She joined NPR in 1975 and has since conducted thousands of interviews. Gross is known for her low-key yet probing interview style, as well as her diverse range of guests. She is praised for her extensive research on her guests' work and her ability to ask unexpected questions. Gross comes from a Jewish family with immigrant grandparents from Poland and the Russian Empire.
