Terry Kinney is an American actor and theater director, best known for his role as Tim McManus on HBO's prison drama Oz. Born on January 29, 1954, in Lincoln, Illinois, Kinney is a founding member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company along with Gary Sinise and Jeff Perry. His parents are Elizabeth L. (née Eimer), a telephone operator, and Kenneth C. Kinney, a tractor company supervisor. Kinney has been involved in theater since 1974 and has a penchant for using cinematic techniques in his productions. His early influences were the films of Cassavetes, which inspired the company's innovative approach to stage techniques.
