David Howell Evans, better known as The Edge, is an English-born Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead guitarist, keyboardist, and backing vocalist of the rock band U2. The Edge has recorded 15 studio albums with U2 and one solo record. His guitar playing style is characterized by chiming timbres, rhythmic delay, drone notes, harmonics, and the use of effects units. Born in England to Welsh parents and raised in Ireland, The Edge formed U2 in 1976 with his classmates at Mount Temple Comprehensive School and his brother Dik.
