Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, known professionally as The Weeknd, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born on February 16, 1990, in Toronto, Canada, he gained recognition for his music production, artistic reinventions, and distinctive use of falsetto vocals. The Weeknd has received numerous accolades, including 4 Grammy Awards, 20 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 Juno Awards. His career began in 2009 when he anonymously released music on YouTube, later co-founding the XO record label. He gained further acclaim with the mixtapes House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence before signing with Republic Records in 2012. The Weeknd has since released several successful albums and continues to be a prominent figure in the music industry.
