Tim Kaine

Timothy Michael Kaine is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the junior United States senator from Virginia since 2013. He is a member of the Democratic Party and previously served as the 38th lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2002 to 2006 and the 70th governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010. Kaine was the Democratic nominee for vice president of the United States in the 2016 election, running alongside Hillary Clinton. He was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and raised in Overland Park, Kansas. Kaine graduated from the University of Missouri and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. Before entering politics, he worked in private practice and as a lecturer at the University of Richmond School of Law. Kaine began his political career by winning a seat on the Richmond City Council in 1994 and went on to serve as the mayor of Richmond in 1998 before being elected lieutenant governor in 2001 and governor of Virginia in 2005.
