After returning to the U.S., she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature at Brown University. Holmes has also conducted research and studies in foreign languages, documentary film, and Brazilian literature and culture. She has worked as a production manager and interned at various production companies and has traveled extensively for her work.
