Tito Puente, born Ernest Anthony Puente Jr. on April 20, 1923, in Manhattan, New York, was an American musician, songwriter, bandleader, timbalero, and record producer. With a career spanning over 50 years, Puente is renowned for his dance-oriented mambo and Latin jazz compositions. His most famous song is 'Oye Como Va'. Puente's music has made appearances in films such as The Mambo Kings and Calle 54. He also guest-starred on popular television shows, including Sesame Street and The Simpsons. Raised in Spanish Harlem, Puente's father worked at a razorblade factory. He earned the nickname 'Tito', meaning Little Ernest, and it stuck with him throughout his life.
