Titos Vandis Biography
Titos Vandis (Τίτος Βανδής; 7 November 1917 – 23 February 2003) was a Greek actor known for his work on stage and screen. He began his career in the late 1930s and appeared in over 250 plays before making his Broadway debut in the Tony-nominated musical 'On A Clear Day You Can See Forever' in 1965. Vandis won the Best Actor award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1962 for his role in the film 'Poliorkia'. He also played the lead role in the musical 'Illya Darling', based on his film 'Never on Sunday'. Vandis lived in the United States for 24 years, after leaving Greece due to a dictatorship. His performances were praised for their finesse and his portrayal of characters such as Greek shipping magnate Themistocles Kriakos.
