Tom Godwin
Tom Godwin (June 6, 1915 – August 31, 1980) was an American science fiction author active throughout the 1950s into the 1970s. He published three novels and around thirty short stories, gaining recognition for his influential short story, 'The Cold Equations'. Born in Maryland in 1915, Godwin had a challenging childhood marked by loss and suffering. Despite only completing the third grade, he taught himself various subjects to enhance his storytelling abilities. Godwin also faced physical challenges, as he had a spinal disorder called kyphosis, which resulted in a hunched back. His contributions to science fiction literature helped redefine the genre and continue to be celebrated by fans and scholars.
