Tom Joyner, born on November 23, 1949, is an American radio personality, host, philanthropist, and former musician. He is best known as the former host of the nationally syndicated The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Joyner is also the founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, Joyner comes from an educated family, with his grandfather being one of only 3,000 black physicians in the United States. Both of his parents were graduates of historically black colleges, and Joyner himself attended Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University, where he graduated with a degree in sociology. While at college, Joyner joined the fraternity Omega Psi Phi. Although his initial goal was to be a musician, he ultimately found success in the radio industry.
