Thomas Earl Petty (October 20, 1950 - October 2, 2017) was an American musician, best known as the leader of the rock bands Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Mudcrutch. He was also a member of the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. Petty had a successful career as a solo artist as well. With the Heartbreakers, he had hit singles such as 'American Girl', 'Don't Do Me Like That', and 'Learning to Fly'. As a solo artist, he had hits like 'I Won't Back Down', 'Free Fallin'', and 'You Don't Know How It Feels'. Petty sold over 80 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
