Thomas Gordon Poston (October 17, 1921 – April 30, 2007) was an American actor known for his prolific television career spanning from the 1950s to the mid-2000s. He holds the record for appearing in the most sitcoms as an actor. Poston gained recognition in the 1980s for his role as George Utley on the CBS sitcom Newhart, earning three Emmy Award nominations. In addition to his television work, he also had a number of film roles and made frequent appearances on Broadway and television game shows. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Poston attended Bethany College and served as a pilot in the European Theater during World War II, dropping paratroopers for the Normandy invasion.
