Thomas Cunningham Thayer, born on November 7, 1960, is an American musician best known as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the hard rock band Kiss. He was also the lead guitarist for the band Black 'n Blue. Thayer grew up in Beaverton, Oregon, in a musical family, with his mother Patricia Thayer being a classically trained violinist and singer, and his father James Thayer being a businessman and retired US Army Brigadier General. Inspired by early 1970s hard rock bands, Thayer started playing the electric guitar at the age of 13. He played in various local bands before forming his own group, which eventually became Black 'n Blue.
