After qualifying as a physician at Guy's Hospital, he became a general practitioner before transitioning into the entertainment industry. During the 1990s, Gardner gained recognition as part of the comedy duo Struck Off and Die alongside Phil Hammond. He later ventured into acting and appeared in various TV commercials, including the Renault Mégane ad. Gardner's notable roles include Brian Johnson in CITV's My Parents Are Aliens and Michael in Jack Dee's sitcom Lead Balloon.
