Tug McGraw Biography
Tug McGraw (1944-2004) was an American professional baseball relief pitcher and long-time MLB player. He is best known for coining the phrase 'Ya Gotta Believe,' which became the rallying cry for the 1973 New York Mets. McGraw played for the Philadelphia Phillies and recorded the final out of the 1980 World Series, bringing them their first championship in 77 years. He was also the last active player to have played under manager Casey Stengel. McGraw was born in Martinez, California, and got his nickname 'Tug' from his mother due to his aggressive way of breast-feeding. He was of Irish descent.
