Tyne Daly, born Ellen Tyne Daly on February 21, 1946, is an American actress. She has achieved significant recognition in both television and theater. Daly has won six Emmy Awards for her outstanding work on television and is a 2011 inductee into the American Theatre Hall of Fame. She began her career in New York's summer stock theater and made her Broadway debut in 1967. Daly is most well-known for her role as Detective Mary Beth Lacey in the television series Cagney & Lacey, for which she won four Emmy Awards. Her notable stage roles include Gypsy, for which she received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1990. Daly has also appeared in other TV shows such as Christy and Judging Amy, earning her additional Emmy Awards. Her Broadway credits include The Seagull, Rabbit Hole, and Mothers and Sons.
