Robert Matthew Van Winkle, better known by his stage name Vanilla Ice, is an American rapper, actor, and television host. He was born on October 31, 1967, in South Dallas and was raised in Texas and South Florida. Ice gained fame with his debut album, 'Hooked,' released in 1989. However, it was his second album, 'To the Extreme,' released in 1990, that skyrocketed him to success. 'To the Extreme' became the fastest-selling hip hop album ever, featuring his iconic hits 'Ice Ice Baby' and a cover of 'Play That Funky Music.' Notably, 'Ice Ice Baby' was the first hip hop single to top the Billboard charts, introducing the genre to a mainstream audience.
