Vicente Fox Quesada is a Mexican businessman and politician who served as the 62nd president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006. He was elected as a right-wing populist on the National Action Party (PAN) ticket, becoming the first president not from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) since 1929. During his presidency, Fox continued the neoliberal economic policies of his predecessors, strengthened relations with the United States and George W. Bush, and faced challenges such as unsuccessful attempts to introduce a value-added tax to medicines and construct an airport in Texcoco. He also had a diplomatic conflict with Fidel Castro of Cuba. Fox won the election with 42 percent of the vote.
