Walter Charles Biography
Walter Charles (born Charles Jacobsen; April 4, 1945 – August 3, 2023) was an American actor and singer. He made his Broadway debut in Grease in 1972 and went on to have a successful career on stage. Some of his notable Broadway credits include Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Cats, La Cage aux Folles, and Anything Goes. Charles also appeared in films such as A Fine Mess and Fletch Lives, as well as TV shows like Cagney and Lacey and Law & Order. He originated the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Walter Charles passed away on August 3, 2023, at the age of 78, due to complications from frontotemporal dementia. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Thompson.
