Walter Jack Gotell (15 March 1924 – 5 May 1997) was a German actor known for his roles as General Gogol, head of the KGB, in the Roger Moore-era of the James Bond film series. He also portrayed the villain Morzeny in From Russia With Love and appeared as Gogol in The Living Daylights, Timothy Dalton's debut Bond film. Born in Bonn, Germany, Gotell's family emigrated to Britain due to the rise of Nazism. With a fluent command of English, he began his film career in 1943, often playing villains and German officers. Gotell had notable roles in films like The African Queen, The Guns of Navarone, and Black Sunday. He passed away in May 1997.
