Wilko Johnson (12 July 1947 – 21 November 2022) was an English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and occasional actor. He gained prominence as a member of the pub rock/rhythm and blues band Dr. Feelgood in the 1970s. Johnson was known for his distinctive fingerstyle guitar playing, creating a highly percussive sound. He influenced the English punk movement and received praise from artists like Paul Weller. In addition to his music career, Johnson appeared in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones in 2011 and 2012, portraying the character Ser Ilyn Payne, the mute executioner. Born in Canvey Island, Essex, Johnson attended Westcliff High School for Boys.
