William Atherton Biography
William Atherton (born July 30, 1947) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in Ghostbusters (1984) and Die Hard (1988). Born in Orange, Connecticut, Atherton studied acting at the Drama School at Carnegie Tech and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1969. He gained recognition for his work on and off Broadway, collaborating with acclaimed playwrights such as David Rabe, John Guare, and Arthur Miller. Atherton's breakthrough came with his role as Clovis Poplin in The Sugarland Express (1974), directed by Steven Spielberg. He went on to star in notable films such as The Day of the Locust (1975), Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), and The Hindenburg (1975).
