William Hurt Biography
William McChord Hurt (March 20, 1950 – March 13, 2022) was an American actor known for his performances on stage and screen. He studied at the Juilliard School and began his acting career in the 1970s. Hurt made his film debut in Ken Russell's science-fiction feature Altered States (1980), receiving a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. He gained critical acclaim with starring roles in films such as Body Heat (1981), Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), for which he won an Academy Award, Children of a Lesser God (1986), and Broadcast News (1987). Hurt also appeared in The Big Chill (1983), The Accidental Tourist (1988), Alice (1990), and One True Thing (1998). His notable awards include an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor.
